Clash of the Gods Blu-ray

Clash of the Gods

For the History Channel’s Clash of the Gods series, I designed & edited the SD & Blu-ray motion menus. The opening edit takes you into a 3D scene with water simulation & some simple movement of the sea creatures. Little touches like water splashes & cloud movement add subtle motion & focus the user on the interface elements.

Here’s the motion menu & main interface… Read more…

WWII in HD Blu-ray

1.15.2010 | 0 Comments

In designing the Blu-ray menus for History’s WWII in HD, I created a “trench-like” environment in 3D & used a very long, dramatic camera move to reveal the interface. The concept was to create a scene that resembled the gritty feeling of the footage with the hopes of setting up the mood for what the viewer is about to experience.

Culled from rare color archival footage from an exhaustive worldwide search and converted to HD with meticulous technique, WWII in HD provides a picture of World War II as it has never been seen before.

Phish Joy Box DVD

1.14.2010 | 0 Comments

I designed the menus for Phish’s Joy Box DVD based on Matt Taylor Band’s cool illustrations. Moody & spacy pretty much sums it up. It’s a DVD capturing live performances from the first half of Phish’s summer 2009 tour - including footage from the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival and the Summer Tour’s opening show at Fenway Park in Boston with fully remixed (from the band’s multi-track recordings) & mastered audio.

Had my fair share of fun at many a show & made some great friends because of those experiences. Having the opportunity to contribute to this was truly an honor.

Flashpoint DVD

1.14.2010 | 0 Comments

One of the CBS action/cop shows, Flashpoint uses S.W.A.T. gear & a palette of cool colors with lots of black thrown in to create a very urban look. An ample amount of glowing techy screen graphics as well. I like the look - it’s very similar to what most New York-y type cop shows are like these days. Nicely executed visuals by cinematographer Stephen Reizes.

DVD interface executed on my end with ample amounts of glowing techy stuff, 3D animation, compositing, & some After Effects work to finish it off.

Weinstein’s 3Pigs And A Baby DVD

3Pigs And A Baby is part of the Weinstein Company’s Unstable Fables animated series(I also designed Tortoise VS Hare). Executed with a fair amount 3D modeling, animation, compositing, and editing.

Tell Me You Love Me DVD

1.14.2010 | 0 Comments

I designed the DVD menus for HBO’s short-lived series Tell Me You Love Me. The marketing for the show was done in a very minimalistic style so I carried that over to the DVD. Because the show was so dialogue based, I created a subtle interface experience focused on audio rather than visuals.

Starz Unforgettably Evil Titles

8.12.2009 | 0 Comments

I designed the titles & credits for the Starz Inside original program “Unforgeattably Evil”… Also did the “cutout” animated stills used throughout the edit. Fun project.

Unforgettably Evil explores Hollywood’s meanest, scariest and most chilling on-screen villians - from Psycho to Silence Of The Lambs to The Dark Knight. With James Cromwell, Malcolm McDowell, David Carradine and more.

It was recently brought to my attention that this is one of David Carradine’s final appearances… Wow.

Ben Harper & Relentless7

I designed the DVD menus & the animated photo gallery for the “White Lies for Dark Times” Deluxe Edition set. This version includes the CD as well as a bonus DVD. The “Shimmer & Shine” music video & the “Keep it Together” documentary were directed by Danny Clinch, who’s work I admire greatly. It’s a rock’n album - way heavier than I expected. Good stuff. Snag a copy here! Check out the DVD motion menu… Read more…

Fanboys DVD

5.19.2009 | 0 Comments

I designed the menus for Kyle Newman’s Fanboys, released by the Weinstein Company. The set includes motion menus, “jump to lightspeed” transitions, and lots of still menus for the abundance of extras. Being a fanboy, I was thrilled to work on this project. The main menu design is very simple, influenced by Star Wars toy packaging themes that have remained fairly consistent from the late 1970’s through today. For a few of the still menus, the look was influenced by the classic Star Wars poster art by Drew Struzen… If the time had been available, I would have probably done custom paintings for the still menus(because I’m a total nerd). May the force be with you.

CSI Season 1 Blu-ray

5.18.2009 | 0 Comments

I designed the motion menus and user interface for the CSI Season 1 Blu-ray release. The project includes 2D & 3D animated elements, HD video editing and compositing, and a clean, hi-tech GUI. Check out the DVD talk review.

“The menu screens are unusually well-designed and easy to navigate…” - Stuart Galbraith IV, DVD Talk

Mannix DVD

3.31.2009 | 0 Comments

Car chases, car phones, gun fights, beautiful women, and a Lalo Schifrin theme song?… very cool. Mannix pushed the envelope at the time with it’s gritty fight sequences and violence - calm by today’s standards, but cool nonetheless. I designed the Season 1 DVD of Mannix for CBS. Emulating the look, cutting style, and optical effects from the late 60’s was a lot of fun. Check out the DVD Talk Review.

Generation Kill DVD

3.23.2009 | 0 Comments

I designed the menus for the HBO 7 part mini-series Generation Kill, both SD and Blu-ray releases. The set includes animated menus, maps, and various supplemental pieces. The SD and BD versions are both neatly packaged in 3 disc sets. Check out the DVD talk review.

House DVD

3.20.2009 | Comments Off

Oddly enough, I was a PA on Robby Henson’s film Pharaoh’s Army back in college. It was a great experience… even though my job was to chase chickens off the set and haul hay around in a truck. I took the second unit DP back to my hometown to shoot some B-roll stuff - slightly more glamorous. He actually let me roll some film through his Arri S that I like to think ended up in the film… so, technically, I should have a cinematography credit - Ha ;) Now I’m designing the DVD menus for Mr. Henson’s lastest film House, released by Lion’s Gate. Funny.

Religulous DVD

3.20.2009 | Comments Off

I designed  the DVD Menus for Bill Maher’s film Religulous, released by Lion’s Gate.  Design, 3D modeling and animation, video editing, as well as plenty of After Effects work. Lots of fun stuff here eluding to heaven and hell… including fire and brimstone transitions and the “Toast” theme. Check out the DVD talk review.

George of the Jungle DVD

3.20.2009 | Comments Off

I designed the menus for Classic Media’s release of the original 1960’s George of the Jungle series on DVD… Including some “Limited Cell” style animation of George flying into a tree for the motion build of the main menu. Check out the DVD talk review.
